Wheatmore junior Ellie Garrison has scored more goals in a single season than any girls soccer player in N.C. High School Athletic Association history — and she has a chance to make it many more if the Warriors can match last year's playoff run.

In its 2A playoff opener against Shelby, Garrison had six of her team's nine goals, giving her 84 on the year.

The previous record was set in 2017 by Isabel Pearce of Woods Charter (82). They are the only two players to notch more than 80 in a single season.

Garrions scored 77 last year, which now sits third all-time. For 11 years, Sarah Winslow of Fike held the record after scoring 76 in 2006.

Garrison is closing in on the career goals record too — held by South View's Carolyn Lindsay since 2003.

Lindsay scored 217. Garrison has 190 with another year left.

There's a team record involved too.

Wheatmore, as the defending 2A state champs, has won a state-record 45 straight contests.

Though it's the state mark for most consecutive wins, it puts them third all-time in consecutive unbeaten games, which is owned by Broughton and followed up by Leesville Road.

The Capitals went without a loss for 81 games from 1999-2002, while the Pride went 61 games from 2008-2010.
