A Knightdale man charged in a fatal shooting last week called authorities to report the crime, according to search warrants released Monday.

Curtis Ray Lee, 24, of 4613 Hidden Hollow Lane, was charged with murder in the April 20 death of James Anthony Williams.

Wake County deputies went to Lee's home in response to a 911 call in which a man said he had shot someone during an altercation and left the gun in the house, according to an affidavit for a search warrant.

Deputies found a man inside a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the torso, and they located a firearm inside the house, the affidavit states.

Williams, 21, died at WakeMed.

Investigators seized a .22-caliber rifle, three cell phones, a portable GPS device, a notepad with various writings and other items in searches of Lee's house and vehicle and Williams' vehicle, according to a search warrant. They also obtained warrants to scan the contents of each cell phone for other evidence in the case.

Lee is being held without bond at the Wake County jail.
