Vehicle fire causing delays on I-40 West in Raleigh

A vehicle fire on Interstate 40 West caused heavy delays Thursday in Raleigh.

The vehicle fire happened between the Lake Wheeler Road (Exit 297) and Gorman Street (Exit 295) exits.

The scene cleared by 8 a.m., but delays up to 40 minutes long persisted.

Backups being around Exit 303 for Rock Quarry Road.

Take an alternate route to avoid traffic. WRAL's Brian Shrader said to take the Gorman Street exit to get to I-40 West.
