Aberdeen fatal shooting might have been over a woman

A fatal shooting Friday night at a Moore County hotel might have been the result of an argument between two men over a woman.

Officers responding around 10 p.m. to the Country Hearth Inn & Suites, on Sandhills Boulevard in Aberdeen, found Mariel Bibiano, 26, of DeKalb County, Ga., with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Bibiano's sister-in-law, Erica Walker, said Wednesday that Bibiano, who was with his father and cousin doing construction work in the area, had been relaxing and drinking beer with co-workers on their balcony Friday night when a woman started flirting with them.

According to a warrant to search a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu belonging to Shelby Mitchell White, investigators say the woman then drove White, her boyfriend, to his car in Southern Pines and that they returned with a handgun.

Investigators said White shot Bibiano after "an altercation" but did not elaborate further.

Inside the car, the warrant says, investigators found a 9 mm shell casing.

White, 33, of Red Springs, is charged with first-degree murder. His girlfriend, Amanda Gayle Gaboury, 41, of Raeford, is charged with accessory after the fact.

White was being held without bond in the Moore County Detention Center Wednesday. Gaboury was jailed on a $50,000 secured bond.

Bibiano leaves behind a wife, a 6-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter.
