The calendar flipping over to Mideastern Conference play as been Topsail's best friend.

After opening the year 1-3, the Pirates rattled their fifth straight conference win on Tuesday night. Drew Shelar and Rhett Britt silenced Hoggard's bats in a 1-0 road victory.

R.J. Browning came through with a run-scoring hit in the top of the fourth to give the Pirates all of the offense that it needed.

Chase Buscher went the distance for the Vikings only allowing a run on five hits, and four K's. Shelar went the first five for Topsail, and the hard-throwing Britt slammed the door in the sixth and seventh.

Out of the nine spot, Luke Keenan went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Topsail.

The Pirates are now 6-3 overall and 5-0 in the league. They travel back down south to Wilmington on Wednesday to face Ashley.

Hoggard is now 10-2 and 3-2 in the MEC. The Vikings are back home on Wednesday night against South Brunswick.
