The Old Ceremony

There is only one way to sum up my experience shooting with The Old Ceremony: I’ve never heard a Freaks and Geeks CD set sound so good.

I’m pretty sure any one of the five band members that make up the Durham, North Carolina, band could make just about anything sound good. Why not try a rubber band and a pogo stick. I hope they take the challenge.

The Old Ceremony will be holding a CD release show on September, 17th at the Cat’s Cradle for their upcoming album Tender Age (Alyosha Records). That will be followed up with another release show in Raleigh on October 15th at Kings.

What stood out to me during the interview was how little producing actually goes into their recordings. Much of what they do is recorded as-live and is tampered with very little. To me, that speaks to the confidence they have in their sound, and after hearing the new CD a few times… it makes sense.

Thanks to The Old Ceremony for working with me on this project. I had a lot of fun shooting and getting to know everyone. I’d also like to thank Maria Albani (Satsuma Amustas) for helping to set this up.

Much more from the Old Ceremony coming soon!
