Tennessee first to offer Southern Durham soph. tackle Ja'Vaughn Hargett

A promising offensive tackle at Southern Durham High School has his first offer, and it's a big one.

Sophomore Ja'Vaughn Hargett reported to his X account on Tuesday morning that he's received a verbal scholarship offer from the University of Tennessee's football program.

Hargett is listed at 6-foot-6 and 255 pounds. He is a member of Southern Durham's graduating class of 2026.

He was credited with 33 pancake blocks in 11 games for the Spartans last fall. He only gave up one sack. He has started 24 games without messing any reps. Southern Durham's coaching staff assigned Hargett an overall grade of A- in 2023.

Southern Durham finished the 2023 season with a 7-5 overall record. The Spartans advanced to the second round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 3A East playoffs, where they lost to Scotland by a score of 21-12.
