Teen who escaped custody Thursday captured in Dudley

A teenager who escaped juvenile detention custody in Goldsboro was captured in Dudley late Thursday night, more than 12 hours after he overpowered officers during a court visit and fled.

Ishmael Jamal Bunch, 16, is assigned to a detention center in Concord, but was being transported to Goldsboro Thursday for a court date when he escaped.

Officers found him around 11 p.m. in a house on Rex Court in the Rollingwood subdivision in Dudley.

After his escape, authorities said Bunch ran into a nearby neighborhood and broke into a home. The homeowner returned during the break-in, and Bunch blindfolded and handcuffed the man using the cuffs from which he broke free.

Two other teenagers, 18-year-old Alexander Rickey Shaw Jr. and 18-year-old Dearron Dequan Strickland were also arrested Thursday for helping Bunch in the robbery he committed after escaping. Officers found them at a home on Dell Drive in Dudley around 5:30 p.m.

Shaw Jr. and Strickland were taken to Wayne County Detention Center and face charges of second-degree kidnapping, common law robbery and felony breaking and entering. They were placed under a $75,000 secured bond.

Bunch, who is in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond, faces charges of second-degree kidnapping, common law robbery, felony breaking and entering, felony escape and assault on a government employee.

Authorities say Bunch, who has a history of violence, is originally from Goldsboro and that his mother still lives there.
