Space secured for Notasium, new music play space, studio

Plans are moving quickly forward for Notasium, the music-based play space and studio that hit its online fundraising goal last week.

Preston Clarke, the Durham dad behind the project, raised $43,600 - about 110 percent of his goal of $40,000 - through Kickstarter, an online fundraising site. He is still seeking investors for the final bit of funding. Clarke and his business partner, Stephen Norman-Scott, would like to open the spot in the next 90 days.

Clarke tells me that they signed a lease on a space in Durham on Friday. The 6,300-square-foot space is at 3750 Chapel Hill Blvd. in the former Pearson Music building.

Clarke's vision is for kids to grow up at Notasium - visiting for drop-in play on a music-based playground as young children and eventually aging into music classes and lessons.
