Southpoint 17 plans sensory friendly movie Saturday

Southpoint 17, the movie theater at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham, will hold its second sensory friendly screening this Saturday.

The special screenings are designed for families affected by autism. During the shows, the auditorium's lights are up, the sound is turned down and audience members are invited to get up, dance, walk, shout or sing.

The screenings, which started at theaters around the country last month, began after a parent in Maryland requested a special screening at her local theater.

This Saturday, the series features "Despicable Me 2," which I'm hearing great things about! It starts at 10 a.m. Tickets are $6.50 for kids and adults.
