Softball Rankings: West Stanly, Clayton join statewide top 25

West Stanly and Clayton join this week's HighSchoolOT softball statewide rankings after strong starts to the year.

They replace Union Academy, which lost to unranked Covenant Day out of the NCISAA, and defending 4A champ Apex, which lost to unranked 1A Roxboro Community.

Rankings reminders:

• Rankings are updated weekly and released on every Monday
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
