Lee County authorities arrested five Sanford residents Tuesday and were searching for a sixth in connection with a fatal shooting two months ago.

Anthony Wayne Giles, 45, was killed during a Nov. 22 home invasion in which a man carrying an assault-type rifle broke into a house on Hickory Nut Court, announced himself as “sheriff” and demanded money.

Giles’ wife said the man tied her up after she gave him money. Investigators said the couple's two adult children were also in the home, but they were unharmed.

Phillip Howard Fortune, 21, of 408 Charlotte Ave., Akil Mathew McAden, 30, of 617 Barnes St., Jessica McCoy, 19, of 600 Maple Ave., Wilbert Verndell Bruton, 58, of 312 McIver St., and Franklin Deon Dorsett, 28, of 1231 First Pointe, were each charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, four counts of first-degree kidnapping, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen goods and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

All were being held without bond in the Lee County jail.

Authorities also have issued arrest warrants for Travis Jamarion McLean, 23, of 639 Scott Ave., on the same charges. He wasn't in custody Tuesday evening.

Investigators didn't say what evidence linked the six people to Giles' death.

Anyone with information about McLean's whereabouts can call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 919-755-5531 or Crime Stoppers at 919-718-4577.
