Lee County sheriff's deputies released this photo of shooting victim Robert Devitto's red Chevrolet truck. They are asking for information about other vehicles they believe were parked next to the truck.

A Broadway man who was shot while hunting in Lee County earlier this week has died from his injuries, authorities said Friday.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old Robert Matthew Devitto was taken off life support and passed away about 1 p.m. Friday at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Deputies said the case is now being investigated as a homicide, and they are asking the public for help in finding out who killed him.

Devitto was found by friends shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday after he failed to return home after going out alone on a duck hunting trip. They found him on North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission game lands on Lower River Road near Gunther Road, authorities said.

Devitto was airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh in critical condition.

Investigators released photos of the victim’s truck Friday, hoping to gather information in the case. They believe there were at least two other vehicles parked to the left of Devitto’s red Chevrolet.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 919-775-5531 or leave an anonymous tip at 919-718-4577. A cash reward is offered for information leading to an arrest in the case.
