Search warrants: Children implicated selves in dad’s slaying
The children of a Wake County man found headless in his freezer in October made statements to investigators that put them and their mother at the crime scene, according to search warrants made public Wednesday.
David Ruben Green Jr., 52, was found Oct. 6 in a freezer at his Ray Road home, more than a month after he had been reported missing.
Green’s long-time girlfriend, Wendy Edmond Green, and children Alexis Morgan Green, 17, and David Ruben Green III, 15, have each been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Wake County sheriff’s investigators on Tuesday asked for permission to collect DNA samples from Alexis Green and Wendy Green. They want to test the DNA against evidence found at the crime scene and in two cars that they believe were used after the crime.
Investigators say in the search warrant affidavit that the children gave similar statements that implicate all three suspects “as having played active roles in the planning and commission of the murder as well as cleaning up the crime scene in an effort to conceal the crime.”
Authorities haven’t offered a motive for the killing but have indicated in previous search warrants that Wendy Green used her boyfriend’s credit cards and asked his family for money.
Previous search warrants indicate that Green might have been dead since January 2009.
