Students and staff at Apex Friendship High School are safe after a shooting threat was found written on a bathroom wall.

"I have a gun leave before 9:30," the threat said. "I need help."

The school sent a statement to the Apex Friendship High School community.

"Apex Friendship High School Families:

Because we believe that informed parents are strong partners with the school, I want to make you aware of an issue that we are investigating this morning.

All students are safe. This morning, students reported to us that a comment was written on a bathroom wall that communicates a threat against our school. We immediately contacted the WCPSS Security Department and law enforcement. They are both currently investigating the threat.

We take all threats seriously. I commend our students for being good partners in keeping our school safe by reporting to school staff anything that impacts school safety. Please take time to talk to your child about the importance of reporting any threats to a school administrator immediately as our students did this morning. Help them to understand that making a hoax threat has serious consequences including criminal prosecution and suspension from school.

To be clear: We are continuing to operate a normal school day. Know that we will continue to take every measure to ensure the safety of our students. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our front office.

We appreciate your continued support of our school."
