A reminder about a big pool closure this summer: Pullen Aquatic Center closed over the weekend for some major renovations and will remain closed through at least Dec. 9.

Work on the pool near downtown Raleigh will include new roofing, skylight replacement, building envelope and structural repair, along with replacement of the natatorium lighting, diving boards, HVAC units and the pool gutter system. The center also will get a natatorium dehumidification system.

The 39,400-square-foot facility was built in 1991 and, according to the city, is due for some big repairs.

The complex hosts several major swimming competitions each year and includes a main pool with recreational swimming, lap lanes and diving boards, along with a separate heated teaching pool. It also is a popular spot for swimming lessons and other aquatic programs.

The closure comes as the city opens up its seasonal pools, providing other options for swimmers who normally head over to Pullen Park. Our Raleigh are public pool database lists pools and spraygrounds in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and beyond.
