New Duke football coach Manny Diaz signed 16 football players as the early signing period began, but only one played high school football in North Carolina.

Reagan cornerback Landan Callahan was the single in-state recruit that the Blue Devils signed on Wednesday.

Callahan is a 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back who is rated a three-star prospect by all major recruiting websites. 247Sports.com ranks him as the No. 22 player in North Carolina from the Class of 2024.

In 11 games played as a senior, Callahan recorded 45 total tackles, including one tackle for loss. He added two interceptions and ten pass deflections for the Raiders.

Duke has a verbal commitment from Southwest Guilford defensive lineman Jaylen Carl as well, but Carl did not sign a letter of intent on Wednesday. It is possible he could still sign during the early signing period, or could wait until February.

Carl is a three-star player who stands at 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds.

In all, Duke's early signing class represented nine states and Australia. Derrick Brown Jr., a linebacker, is from Waxhaw, N.C., but he played high school football in Connecticut.
