RDU passengers wait in long lines

For the past several Fridays, we've heard from passengers who say the security lines here at Raleigh-Durham Airport are too long.

At one point at Terminal Two, the line has reached the back window. We reached out to RDU to find out how they're handling the influx.

Airport officials said most people can get through security lines in 15-25 minutes. In a recent interview with a representative with the Transportation Safety Administration, we were told at times passengers have waited roughly 40 minutes. They said that's not the norm and changes are coming to fix that problem.

"We've already installed two new checkpoint lanes here in Terminal Two," said Jake Potter, Director of Internal Communications at RDU. "We just announced that we will install two more. We think that will accelerate the lines even further."

A few other changes are happening. The airport is working on features to help you track your wait time online in real time. Also, to alleviate congestion in Terminal Two, three airlines -- Frontier, Spirit and Allegiant -- are moving into Terminal One. That space will be shared with Southwest Airlines starting next year.
