Dozens help in search for missing Seagrove kids

Four Randolph County children spent a scary night in the woods Thursday before a search-and-rescue team of volunteers found them, huddled by a rock.

Three seven-year-olds and a five-year-old were playing outside along Needhams Trail in Seagrove when they wandered into the nearby woods.

Rescuers said the children were smart to huddle together as the temperature dropped. They came home cold and frightened but uninjured.

"We couldn't find the way to the house because we followed a river and we saw this line at this big rock," Kalob Sanders said. "It started sleeting, and I didn't have a hood. And so the sleet got on my head and I was getting cold."

Kalob, 7, said he and his friends heard searchers calling for them and dogs barking. Dozens of neighbors and the State Highway Patrol joined the search.
