A Raleigh woman died Tuesday morning in a wreck on southbound Interstate 85 in Guilford County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 10:23 a.m. near the Groometown Road exit.

Emerald Padilla, 24, lost control of her 2006 Infiniti on the rain-slicked highway, and the car ran off the side of the road, hit an overhead sign post and burst into flames, authorities said.

Drivers who witnessed the wreck stopped to try and get Padilla out of the car, but troopers said the flames were too intense.

Guilford County firefighters and paramedics also were unsuccessful in attempts to save her, authorities said.
