Raleigh teen killed in shooting

Raleigh police believe the shooting death of a 16-year-old in the 2800 block of Poole Road Thursday night was not random.

Darius Latrae Johnson, 16, of Raleigh, was killed in a shooting in the 2800 block of Poole Road around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2011, police said.

A 16-year-old from Raleigh was killed in a shooting in the 2800 block of Poole Road around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Police said Darius Latrae Johnson was walking with two friends when he was approached by two men who shot him. Johnson was taken to WakeMed, where he later died. 

Authorities believe he knew at least one of the men. No arrests have been made. 

Following the shooting, one of Johnson's friends called 911. 

“They shot him. They were screaming and I ran,” the caller said.

Poole Road was closed until about 6 a.m. as investigators collected evidence.
