The N.C. Museum of Art is restarting its very popular program for preschoolers and families. What's in the Box will return for the first time since the pandemic began this week.

It's set for 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1. These programs are designed for three to five-year-olds and their caregivers. In the before times, sessions would often sell out.

Here's a description of what's planned for this week: "Meet a work of art, enjoy movement and play, and get your creative juices flowing with activities for 3- to 5-year-olds and their caregivers. In this session get to know Flight of the Butterfly No. 1 (Vol de Papillon) by artist Stanton Macdonald-Wright and make a mixed-media painting that explores color and movement."

Tickets are $12.87. Masks will be required for all attendees ages 3 and up. Head over to the museum's website for more information and to get your tickets.

Also, for your calendars: The museum will be offering an outdoor version of the American Dance Festival with family activities Sept. 9 to Sept. 16. It's also offering some free activity kits for families. Sign up now to pick up the kits on Sept. 11 to make the projects at home.
