A 37-year-old Fayetteville man was charged Thursday with two counts of first-degree sexual offense of a child, Apex police said.

According to investigators, Ike David Simmons' charges are the result of two assaults committed in 2009 against a 12-year-old. Simmons, of 1706 Englewood Drive, and the victim know each other, but Apex police did not release more information about their relationship.

Simmons, a registered sex offender, was convicted for other crimes in 2003 by a military court. He was being held in the Wake County jail Friday under a $500,000 bond.

Authorities said in a news release that they expect to file more charges against Simmons in the coming days.
