Fatal pedestrian wreck creates big delays on Raleigh's Capital Boulevard

A 64-year-old woman died early Thursday after being hit by an SUV on Capital Boulevard in north Raleigh, police said.

Raleigh police responded to the 3000 block of Capital Boulevard, near the intersection with Trawick Road, at about 6:50 a.m. after Cornelia Olero Amissah was hit by a Mercedes SUV.

Raleigh police said Amissah may have been hit by multiple vehicles, only one of which remained at the scene. One vehicle that left the scene before police arrived was described as a small, light-colored sedan.

More details about the wreck have not been released.

All northbound lanes of Capital Boulevard were blocked for more than two hours and reopened at about 9:30 a.m.

Major delays were reported on southbound and northbound Capital Boulevard throughout the morning commute.
