Al's Pub Shack in Governor's Village has shut its doors for the week but will reopen on Monday as Al's Burger Shack, according to owners.

Al's, located in Governor's Village, will be closed through Sunday. On July 8, the restaurant will reopen, serving the full menu found at other Al's locations.

Al's Pub Shack opened in April as a new concept, serving local beer on tap and a menu featuring a few Al's classics, like the Pub Shack Burger, and a few healthy options, including the Super Bowl, which included kale, quinoa and black beans. When it reopens Monday, it will serve the entire Al's menu.

"At first, a few folks came in to the Pub Shack asking for Burger Shack items; a Bobo Chili Cheeseburger here, a Sally Mack Hot Dog there," owners Al and Melody Bowers said in a statement. "We thought it would pass, but the questions just kept coming; 'Where are the rosemary fries?' and 'Can I order a Buddy Bite Kenny J?'"

Al and Melody Bowers opened Al's Burger Shack in Chapel Hill in 2013. In 2017, a second location opened in Southern Village.

That same year the couple also opened Mel’s Commissary & Catering to serve as a prep kitchen for the company's catering needs.

Al's Burger Shack is located at 50050 Governors Drive. It is open Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Last year, Al's "Bobo Chili Cheeseburger" was voted the "Best Burger in America" by TripAdvisor.
