Officials with Fort Bragg said a 25-year-old soldier who was reported missing on Sunday is now AWOL.

Carl Seeman, a New York native, is a member of the 2nd Battalion 319th Airborne Field Artillery. His unit was conducting training at Fort Bragg, but it was scheduled be deployed Monday to the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Seeman's car was found Sunday night in the parking lot of a Walmart on Gillespie Street in Fayetteville.

Members of the Fayetteville Police Department's violent criminal apprehension team were assisting in the search.

"The main reason for that is they are people finders. Whether it is somebody who is wanted with a warrant for an outstanding criminal process, or somebody that's gone missing," said Shawn Strepay, a police spokesperson. "That's why these cases are assigned to them, and they are working hard, even as we speak, to locate him."

Police said they are tracking calls made on Seeman's cell phone and will look at security camera video from the area.

Foul play is not suspected in Seeman's disappearance, authorities said.
