October warmth and a spooky Halloween forecast

We have seen our fair share of warm days this October with even record warmth possible for the upcoming holiday weekend. When we look at how our temperature trend stacks up over the past 52 years, we notice a clear trend of warming at night, as well. Halloween has also seen its fair share of ups and downs.

The depiction from Climate Central represents the average of October nighttime temperatures going back to 1970. We see ups and downs, but the overall trend line shows a warming of about 4.5 degrees for Raleigh/Durham.

When we look at the holiday itself, Halloween has seen its fair share of ups and downs!

Our warmest one was 85 degrees in 2019. The coolest occurred in 1963 with a reading of 30 degrees. In 1887, we even picked up a trace (dusting) of snow.

Our forecast this year calls for a cold Halloween with a high in the mid to upper 40s during trick-or-treat time and a chance of some rain into the late evening.
