Braswell Family Farms will be holding a New Year's Eve Egg Drop at The Nashville Junction

North Carolina has a history of unique New Year's Eve "drops" including an acorn and a pickle. You can add an egg to that list.

Braswell Family Farms will be holding a New Year's Eve Egg Drop at The Nashville Junction, 723 S. Barnes St., Nashville, NC, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The countdown will happen just before 7 p.m. and will include a fireworks display. There will also be live music from Meredith Davis John and Real Rowdy, food and beverage trucks, raffles, outdoor yard games, a photo booth, face painting and cornhole.

Braswell Family Farms is the second largest Eggland's Best franchisee in the United States.

Pickle drop returns for NYE

After being canceled last year due to weather, Mount Olive will once again host its pickle drop on New Year's Eve. The event will be held at 7 p.m. The pickle drops from the Mount Olive Fire Department’s Tower 23 and into a giant pickle jar. Fireworks normally follow the drop.

Raleigh to drop acorn twice on NYE

As per tradition, Raleigh will signal the beginning of the new year with two acorn drops on New Year's Eve during the WRAL First Night celebration. The first drop will happen at 7 p.m. to signal the end of the early children's celebration. The second drop will happen at midnight. Fireworks will follow both drops.

Clay County used to drop a possum

In 1990, Clay Logan, a convenience store owner in the mountain community of Brasstown created a New Year's Eve tradition for the town that involved lowering an opossum in a Plexiglas box during the countdown to the new year.

The drop caused a lawsuit from PETA.

Logan retired in 2018 and asked the nearby city of Andrews to take over the drop. They did for one year, but then the tradition ended in 2019.
