No. 22 Wayne Christian stays undefeated with win over Harrells Christian

Despite a tough early-season schedule, No. 22 Wayne Christian is still undefeated after about a month of play.

The Eagles outlasted visiting Harrells Christian 8-6 on Tuesday, using a big five-run second inning to put just than distance between themselves and the Crusaders to secure another nonconference victory.

Wayne Christian (7-0) led 6-0 after two innings but Harrells Christian (3-7) scored two in the third to cut into the lead.

Wayne Christian struck back with two more in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-2, but the Crusaders scored six in the top of the sixth to make it interesting late.

Harrells Christian was led by pitcher Sabrina Batts, who was 3-of-4 at the plate with one double and one RBI. Other RBIs were notched by seventh-grader Breelyn Peed, seventh-grader Makenzie Jackson, and junior Riley Cannon.

Riley Sutton struck out nine in seven innings, allowing four earned runs and walking one while giving up eight hits.

Batts gave up 14 hits and all eight runs were earned. She struck out two and walked three.
