Two people died as a result of a wreck in Robeson County Monday morning, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Marshall Clifford Heckel, 21, of Lumberton, and his girlfriend, Brittany Darilin Graybill, 20, of S. Lombard St. in Clayton, were eastbound on McQueen Road when Heckel drove into the path of a pickup at the intersection with Rennert Road.

Graybill, a student at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where she died. Heckel was treated for his injuries and released from Southeast Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the pickup, Fred Nelson Gibbs, 40, of Lumberton, was thrown from his vehicle when his seat belt broke. He died at the scene, troopers said.
