A 29-year-old man died Sunday night as a result of a shooting at Harrells Raceway in Sampson County, authorities said.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office said the victim, Timothy McKoy of Garland, and another man argued before the assailant fired his weapon and fled the scene.

It was the second time in two months that authorities were called to the track, at 3030 Buckhorn Road.

In May, a spectator was killed in the stands and another injured by debris from a wreck.

Harrells Raceway is privately owned and isn't sanctioned by the International Hot Rod Association or regulated by the state.

A driver was killed at the same track in 1992 when he crashed into a guard rail near the finish line.
