As State Bureau of Investigation looks into the deputy-involved shooting death of a man suspected in a series of home break-ins, one of his alleged victims is talking.

Christopher Dean Trivett, 32, of Roxboro was shot and killed by Orange County deputies. He was the subject of a manhunt after home break-ins, an attempted sexual assault and two attempted slayings in Person County, authorities said.

Trivett's crime spree began Thursday after he stole a car from the Wal-Mart in Roxboro, authorities said.

According to arrest warrants, Trivett first broke into a Roxboro home at 290 Brooks Carr Drive while homeowner Tommy Carver was inside.

"I jumped up and went out behind him. I was in my shorts and barefoot. He never stopped, he just kept running," Carver said.

Trivett worked for three months at Carver's plumbing company. Carver said Trivett had previously battled alcohol abuse problems, but was a solid employee.

"It is something that carried him over the edge and I don't have a clue what it was and it bothers me. And that is really what I have been trying to figure out," Carver added.

Trivett stole two 12-gauge shotguns and a .22-caliber rifle from Carver's home, authorities said. Carver was not injured during the robbery.

After robbing Carver, Trivett broke into a home on Guess Road where he attempted to sexually assault a woman and tried to kill her and other woman, according to arrest warrants.

Trivett then wrecked the stolen car and abandoned it. Arrest warrants say Trivett used a shotgun while breaking into another Guess Road home.

Deputies encountered Trivett Saturday afternoon on New Sharon Church Road, near Guess Road in Rougemont. Deputies became "involved in a shooting incident after encountering a suspicious person," authorities said.

Trivett was fatally shot in the chest.

The name of the deputies involved in the shooting was withheld.
