Protective Custody Not Protecting Burmeister

The so-called "tight security" meant to protect convicted murderer James Burmeister has been cracked for the second time in a week. A prisoner entered Burmeister's cell when a correctional officer forgot to lock the door.

When officers discovered Ronnie Crumper inside Burmeister's cell, Crumper said he didn't intend to harm Burmeister, he just wanted to point out how vulnerable he is to an attack.

Burmeister, a former Fort Bragg paratrooper, was convicted last month in the shooting deaths of two Fayetteville African-Americans. At the time of his sentencing, he asked for extra security to protect him from revenge in prison.
