Two killed in Rocky Mount shooting

Two men died after they were shot while sitting in a car in Rocky Mount Sunday night, according to police.

Officers responded to Randy Levon Elliott's house at 808 Pender St. around 11:15 p.m. and found him and Gregory Demon Freeman, both 22 and from Rocky Mount, shot in the car.

Emergency crews took the men to Nash General Hospital for treatment. Elliott was pronounced dead at the hospital. Freeman was flown to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he died.

No arrests have been made, and police said they haven't determined a motive yet. Officers are searching for a white Honda, possibly a two-door Civic with factory hubcaps, that was seen leaving the area at the time of the shooting.

"I heard the shots go off, and my friend ran outside and (saw) the car shot up," said Jamel Hussey, Elliott's brother. "I came outside, too, and was looking in the car. It was a sad sight, man ... It’s crazy. He meant everything to me."

Freeman's father, Gregory Scott, said the two victims were friends and "just like brothers."

"I'm just taking it one day at a time. The only thing I can do is just pray," Scott said.
