Matt not Mitt: Triangle backers get visit from Romney son
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney changed his plans Saturday, eliminating a Sunday afternoon stop in the Triangle. Instead, he and newly named running mate Paul Ryan will attend a "Homecoming Rally" in Ryan's home state of Wisconsin.
The candidates diverted “The Romney Plan For A Stronger Middle Class” bus tour after Ryan joined the ticket Saturday. They will make two North Carolina stops Sunday – at 10 a.m. at the NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville and at 1 p.m. in High Point.
There will still be a campaign event at Smokey's Shack, a barbecue restaurant at 10800 Chapel Hill Road in Morrisville, but the headliner will be the candidate's son, Matt Romney, according to the Wake County Republican Party. Pat McCrory, the Republican candidate for governor, will also be on hand.
