Mount Airy, Seaforth, Croatan, Marvin Ridge lead Wells Fargo State Cup race after winter season

Each season, schools earn points in the Wells Fargo Cup standings based on their performance in the NCHSAA state playoffs.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association has released the standings for the Wells Fargo State Cup following the winter sports season.

Mount Airy (1A), Seaforth (2A), Croatan (3A), and Marvin Ridge (4A) lead the standings in their respective classifications.

The Wells Fargo State Cup recognizes the best overall athletic programs at high schools in North Carolina.

Each season, schools earn points in the Wells Fargo Cup standings based on their performance in the NCHSAA state playoffs. All schools that finish in top eight positions, including ties, earn points.

Teams are awarded 50 points for a first-place finish, 45 points for a second-place finish, 40 points for a third-place finish, etc. Schools also receive five points for every sanctioned sport in which the school qualifies for the state playoffs.
