MOPS meets at Crossroads Fellowship
A group of moms in Colorado formed what would become MOPS International more than 35 years ago. Today, moms meet for Christian fellowship, friendship and support in groups around the world.
In our part of North Carolina, I found listings for at least 70 groups. Click here to search for one near you.
Many groups meet a couple of times a month in the mornings. But for all you working moms out there, some are offered at night. And there are even a few Teen MOPS groups for teen moms. Daycare is provided for the kids, from birth to kindergarten, during the meetings.
About now is the time when many MOPS groups begin planning for the coming session, which usually starts in the early fall. So I thought I'd feature a few MOPS groups over the next several weeks.
The first one is MOPS at Crossroads Fellowship in north Raleigh. The group meets on two Tuesday mornings a month from September through May. Meetings include a yummy brunch, along with speakers, crafts and opportunities to talk with other moms in small groups.
Between meetings and in the summer months, moms get together informally for playgroups or picnics. I attended the final meeting of the last session and it was clear these moms had formed some pretty close friendships over time.

And full disclosure and funny coincidence: When Sarah Clark, the group's publicity coordinator, contacted me last spring to see if I was interested in writing about MOPS, she didn't know that my mom attends Crossroads and was actually a MOPpet (what they call the people who care for the children during the meetings) at the time.
