What's your name and where are you from?

Allow me to introduce myself as Nikki Davis aka Ya Girl Nikki, originally from Roxboro, NC, and now proudly calling St. Louis, Missouri, my current place of residence.

Tell us about you and your family.

My family is a genuine manifestation of my prayers. We deeply love one another and genuinely enjoy each other's company, even when we occasionally get on each other's nerves. We are practically inseparable, doing almost everything together. Although Mommy and Daddy sometimes need moments of respite, even in those instances, we find ourselves calling and sharing pictures of the kids. I simply cannot imagine my life without them. We may not be perfect, but we are undoubtedly perfect for each other. My husband and I frequently express our adoration for our little family, embracing the love and joy it brings us.

What challenges do you face balancing your career and motherhood?

Time keeps flowing without pause, reminding us of its relentless nature. As a result, I recognize the need to prioritize dedicating more energy to my children than to my career. While financial stability is important to provide the life our kids deserve, in the eyes of a child, what matters most is love and undivided attention. My children (ages 2 and 5) understand that I must work, but they engage in their own form of "work" through play, playfully envisioning me and my partner as their employees (lol)!

What is the biggest lesson your children have taught you?

Through the presence of my children, I have discovered the importance of laughter and cherishing the small moments, as they often become the most significant ones in life. My children have shown me the profound power of God's Love! Unconditional, agape love!

Please give us details about your career journey and how you ended with this current position.

During my time at Winston-Salem State University, I had the opportunity to secure my first internship, which led me to discover my passion for radio. Throughout the past 17 years, I have been fully immersed in the world of Hip Hop radio, holding various positions from nights to afternoon personality and even serving as a production manager in over 10 cities. However, as time passed, I felt a calling from GOD, urging me to use my talents and skills to serve Him through the radio industry. I am excited to share that I have embarked on a new journey as a morning show host for the nation's greatest Christian Hip Hop station, Boost Radio. Based in St. Louis and syndicated in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Fayetteville (NC), Portland and Minneapolis, I am humbled and grateful to be able to blend my love for radio with my faith and commitment to spreading positivity and inspiration through the airwaves. It is an incredible opportunity to touch the lives of many and be part of a platform that brings hope and encouragement to our listeners.

Tell us about your passions outside of work. What are fun things you like to do or projects you are working on?

I thoroughly enjoy exploring the city with my family. St. Louis offers an abundance of family-friendly activities, and many of them are completely free! In addition to my family adventures, I have been working on another book, an endeavor that GOD has guided me towards.

What are you most proud of in your motherhood journey?

The behavior of my children, both in public and around others, serves as a reflection of my husband and me as parents. Observing their interactions fills me with a sense of pride and reassurance, affirming that we are doing an amazing job in raising them. I also take great pride in overcoming postpartum depression and refusing to let it consume me.

Many couples need that break and the opportunity to have time alone without their children. So what does a night out for you and your husband look like?

The concept of a night out has become quite amusing to me (LOL)!! It's true that I often find myself unable to stay awake past 10:15 p.m., as my husband playfully points out. Therefore, our version of a night out has evolved into a day out instead. We enjoy simple pleasures like grabbing a meal together, cruising along the highway while indulging in the melodies of Bobby Womack, or simply relishing uninterrupted conversations.

Do you have any books or podcasts that you would recommend to other mothers?

When I find myself going through challenging times, the Bible is my unwavering source of guidance and strength. It serves as my ultimate go-to book. Additionally, I have a collection of other favorites that I turn to for inspiration, such as "Destiny" by TD Jakes, "Push" by Cindy Trimm, and any publication by Myles Munroe. As for podcasts, I gravitate towards motivational content that aligns with my current mood, seeking wisdom and encouragement.
