Man wanted in double homicide surrenders to Fayetteville police
A man wanted in connection with a double homicide at Watauga Manor Apartments last month called 911 and turned himself in Monday night, police said.
Mario Jacquez Boykin, 20, was wanted in connection with the deaths of Joe "Hawk" Hawkins and his 26-year-old son, Alexis Hawkins, who were found in their apartment at 5008-D Watauga Road on June 23.
Boykin went to a pay phone at Cliffdale and 71st School roads on Tuesday night, called 911 and told dispatchers he was ready to turn himself in, police said. Officers arrested him "without incident," they said.

Police held him in the Cumberland County Jail under no bond and charged him with the following:
- two counts of first-degree murder
- two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon
- one count of first-degree burglary
- one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a deadly weapon
- three counts of possession of marijuana
- one count of possession with intent to sell or distribute cocaine
- one count of possession of drug paraphernalia
Boykins served six months in prison after convictions on three counts of common-law robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2007, according to state Department of Correction records.
Police are still searching for Reginald Walter Watford, 20, of 1603 Morehead Avenue, who was named a person of interest in the case.
