Man dies after being helped to shore along Outer Banks beach

A man died at The Outer Banks on Thursday after being helped back to shore in Duck.

After being pulled from the water by a good Samaritan, the 80-year-old man was unresponsive. Bystanders and first responders with Dare County and the town of Duck attempted to save his life, but were unsuccessful. He was declared dead at 12:15 p.m.

A release from the town said the man was visiting from Schaumburg, Illinois. He was not identified.
