Beach season is upon us, and we asked the folks in the newsroom to share with us their own beach-related Five Faves! Anchor/reporter Ken Smith has spent a lot of time at the beach, sometimes covering hurricanes! He gave us his Five Faves last year, but this year we asked him again!

Stack Em High (Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills) - This family-owned and operated restaurant has been serving great breakfast on the Outer Banks since opening in 1981. They have the best pancakes! Best breakfast in the Outer Banks!

Kill Devil Grill This restaurant, which used to be known as Sam's Diner, is on the national registry of historic places. Make sure to check out their jukeboxes and try the wings (the best in the Outer Banks, in my opinion.)

Owens (Nags Head) - They have been operating for more than 65 years on the Outer Banks and are still operated and owned by the founding family. This restaurant has friendly staff and is perfect for dinner.

Nags Head

Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant (Wanchese) - Located in a little fishing village just before you get to Nags Head, Fisherman's Wharf has fresh seafood in a beautiful setting. Check out their large windows overlooking the working commercial fishing docks.

Kelly's Outer Banks Restaurant and Tavern (Nags Head)In business for more than 28 years, Kelly's specializes in local seafood, steaks and pasta. Try the sweet potato biscuits! They are my favorite!

Honorable mentions:

PT's Olde Fashioned Grill (Various locations in Wilmington) - a cool burger joint

Sugar Creek Seafood (Nags Head) - Great cornbread!
