Johnston County man charged in teen's shooting death

Police charged a Wilson's Mills man with fatally shooting his 18-year-old girlfriend early Saturday.

Derrick Williams, 42, of 92 Mitchner Drive, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Moesha Lockamy.Williams was released from the Johnston County jail after posting a $100,000 bond.

Officers responding to Williams' home at about 2:40 a.m. found Lockamy bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest. They and paramedics attempted to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Erick Alvarado lives nearby. He said he woke up when police were called to the home.

"It was like a lot of officers, a lot of firemen and a lot of ambulances out here and I didn't know what was going on," he said.

Alvarado said he did not know the two very well, but always assumed that Lockamy was Williams' daughter.

"Every time I saw them out I said 'hey' and that's it. That is the farthest I went with them," he said.

Investigators said they believe that Lockamy and Williams were playing with a gun when it discharged, but the shooting remains under investigation.

According to arrest records, Williams is a convicted felon and has a history of drug and weapons charges.
