Introducing Pigcasso: N.C. Museum of Art's 'pig' has a name

On Friday, during the museum's Hoopla in the Park, people picked among the top three choices of the dozens of suggestions: Chevy, Jamon and Pigcasso.

The pig-shaped play piece at the N.C. Museum of Art, originally called SCULPT. C, has a bit more playful name: Pigcasso.

When the museum installed the piece in its museum park in March, they asked the public for suggestions for the interactive play piece. On Friday, during the museum's Hoopla in the Park, people picked among the top three choices of the dozens of suggestions: Chevy, Jamon and Pigcasso.

Pigcasso was the clear winner!

Spanish artist Jaime Hayon created the piece, which now sits permanently in the park's new Discovery Garden, which isn't far from the park's main parking lot off Blue Ridge Road in west Raleigh. Pigcasso is one in a series of large-scale whimsical sculptures titled Tiovivo, which means carousel in Spanish. It came from the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, where it had been on view for the past year.

As always, it's free to visit the park - and free to play on the pig (which will appeal to toddlers to young grade schoolers). And it's one of five great slides in the Triangle.
