Inmate dies in Durham cell

An inmate died Sunday in his cell at the Durham County Detention Center.

According to officials in Durham, emergency medical workers responded to the detention center located at 219 S. Mangum Street after an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell.

After attempts to revive the inmate he was pronounced dead.

The SBI is investigating the death.

The identity of the inmate will be provided once the family is notified.
