Fayetteville mayoral race narrows to two candidates after Tuesday's primary

Incumbent Mitch Colvin and Freddie de la Cruz will square off in the Fayetteville mayoral race next month.

The two candidates head to the Nov. 7 election.

With 100% of the precincts reporting, Colvin received 6,472 votes (60.5%) and de la Cruz got 2,339 votes (21.9%).

Colvin is seeking his fourth term as the city's top political leader.

De la Cruz is making his second run for Fayetteville mayor. He sees fighting crime in the city a top priority.

Two others were seeking office in Tuesday's primary election: Charles Evans and Quancidine Hinson-Gribble.
