A big congratulations and thank you to Kathy Hanrahan, who writes the Inconceivable series here on Go Ask Mom.

Over the weekend, during the annual Walk of Hope for Infertility in Raleigh, Kathy was presented with the Community Advocate Award for writing about her experience with secondary infertility right here on Go Ask Mom. Kathy, who also edits WRAL.com's Out & About section, has been writing about her ups and many downs and heartbreaks since November 2017.

Kathy and WRAL's Renee Chou, who also has shared her story of infertility, are far from alone.

According to statistics on the National Infertility Association's website:

  • 1 in 8 couples - or 12 percent of married women - have trouble getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • 7.4 million women, or 11.9 percent of women, have received any infertility services in their lifetime, according to the CDC.
  • Approximately one-third of infertility cases are attributed to the female partner, one-third attributed to the male partner and one-third are caused by a combination of problems in both partners or, is unexplained, according to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.

To find out more about Kathy's journey, here are links to some of her most recent posts. I know from the messages that I receive each time she writes that her words are resonating with so many.
