I-85 reopens after wrong-way driver collides with 18-wheeler
Interstate 85 South in Durham was closed Saturday morning after a serious crash involving an 18-wheeler and two other vehicles.
The crash happened after 2:30 a.m., when an18-wheeler ran off the road into an embankment and landed on its side near North Pointe Drive. Police said the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver that collided with the 18-wheeler.
The driver was stuck in the 18-wheeler and had to be freed by emergency responders.
Two other vehicles collided with the wrong-way driver.
The Durham Police Department posted on X (formerly Twitter) that I-85 South was closed while they investigated the crash.
The crash happened near Exit 175 near Guess Road.
Police said there were serious injuries. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time.
The interstate reopened just after 6:30 a.m.
