A vehicle wrecked Saturday night on Interstate 40 westbound near Rock Quarry Rd.

A single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 40 sent six people to the hospital and caused serious traffic delays on Saturday.

Raleigh police said Joel Duran, 16, was driving a 2003 Ford Explorer on I-40 West between Rock Quarry and Hammond roads around 7:30 p.m. He lost control of the vehicle while changing lanes.

Joel Duran managed to pull the Ford back onto the highway, but then it flipped over.

Two passengers – Elizabeth Arch, 23, and Zephrino Duran, 17 – were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

I-40 West was closed for about three hours until crews cleared the wreckage.

Six people, including Joel Duran, were transported to WakeMed. Police identified the other three as Emma Duran, 12, Joanna Solavo Herrera, 16, and Angelica Varsas, 18.

Arch and Zephrino Duran remained listed in critical condition at WakeMed on Sunday afternoon. Emma Duran was treated and released.

Charges in the accident had not been filed Sunday afternoon, police said.
