Henderson mom died from gunshots wounds to head, chest

A Henderson woman whose 15-year-old son is charged in her death died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and the chest, an autopsy report released Thursday found.

Letitia Hammond, 33, was shot six times on the right side of her body, including twice in the arm, chest and head, according to the report by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill.

Henderson police said that Hammond's 13-year-old daughter found her mother's body in their home on South Carolina Avenue on June 15.

Authorities haven't disclosed a possible motive in the case but said it wasn't a robbery.

Hammond's son, whose name has not been released, faces a charge of first-degree murder.
