Half of HSOT's area code rankings for girls basketball have new No. 1 teams
Half of the state's six area codes have a new No. 1 team in HSOT's area code rankings.
In HSOT's statewide Top 25 rankings, there are three new teams in the top 10: undefeated Myers Park, A.C. Reynolds, and Bishop McGuinness. Cape Fear was ranked No. 3 last week and dropped to No. 22 after a loss to No. 21 North Pitt. Alexander Central dropped out of the rankings entirely with a loss to unranked Ashe County.
Here are a few things about how our rankings work in girls' basketball:
- Rankings are updated weekly and released on Monday
- All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
- There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
- Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
- Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
